Male client diagnosed with dementia with sundowning behaviors, requiring structured, calm, and consistent care. Client’s wife resides in the home and requires light assistance and support. The ideal caregiver is patient, observant, emotionally steady, and experienced in dementia care.
Schedule
Day, evening, overnight, or extended-hour shifts (exact schedule to be assigned)
Primary Responsibilities
Client Care (Primary Focus)
- Provide one-on-one dementia-focused care and supervision
- Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting)
- Implement redirection and de-escalation techniques during sundowning periods
- Maintain a calm, structured routine to reduce agitation and confusion
- Ensure client safety and fall prevention at all times
- Assist with mobility and transfers as needed
- Provide companionship and emotional reassurance
- Monitor and report changes in behavior or condition
Spouse Support (Secondary Focus)
- Light assistance as requested (meal prep, reminders, basic household support)
- Provide reassurance and respite support to reduce caregiver fatigue
- Maintain respectful boundaries while supporting the household
Household Support
- Light housekeeping related to client care
- Meal preparation and hydration reminders
- Maintain a safe, clutter-free environment
Qualifications
- Current HHA or CNA certification
- Minimum 1 year experience with dementia or Alzheimer’s care preferred
- Experience managing sundowning behaviors strongly preferred
- CPR/BLS certification
- Ability to remain calm, patient, and compassionate in challenging situations
- Reliable transportation and punctuality
- Ability to follow a care plan and document care accurately
Preferred Skills
- Dementia care or Alzheimer’s training
- Strong communication and observation skills
- Comfort with overnight or extended shifts
- Professional, respectful demeanor
Physical Requirements
- Ability to assist with mobility and transfers
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform caregiving tasks throughout the shift
Compensation: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
